Description
William Jenkins (1783 – 1880) was born in the home of Thomas Beers of Lot 50. He would go on to be a farmer who settled in Birch Hill, Lot 49. He married Eleanor Acorn and they had 6 children; Margaret, James, William, Henry, John and Sarah.
William Jenkins: Born in Pownal in 1783[?] but emigrated from the United States during the same time, as his family is likely to have been Americans sailing to Prince Edward Island of that same year. By the time of the 1841 Census William Jenkins had been living in Lot 49, not far from his birth, as a farmer with his wife and possible six children. Jenkins had owned upwards of one hundred acres of land in Lot 49 with a surprising 999 year lease[?]. Jenkins’ family all subscribed to the Church of Scotland, Presbyterian Church, where they lived in the Pownal area after William Jenkins’ death after the 1876 Census. Many Jenkins’, especially William Jenkins’, remained in the Lot 48/49/50 area well into the 1900’s, it is incredibly likely that many Jenkins' in the area are directly related to William Jenkins, as he had four sons by the 1841 Census.
