Description
On the first day of September, 1784,
Ambroise Burk of Lot 43 completed an
autumnal trek to Three Rivers to make a
trade with William Creed, a merchant of
that place. Transactions between the
two could not have taken nearly as long
as the trip, for Burk carried away, on
credit, only a couple of gallons of
molasses. Later that month he returned
to pay his debt "by fish" and to make
further purchases for which he recompensed
Creed with potatoes and a
cache of chocolate. The exchange must
have satisfied both parties, for Burk and
Creed continued to do business until at
least St. Patrick's Day, 1786.
