Captain John MacDonald and the Island

Description
In the history of Prince Edward Island,
those years in the last half of the
eighteenth century when it was officially
known as the Island of St. John are
among its least familiar and most
fascinating. Not only did these years see
the development of most of the institutions
and tensions which would preoccupy
the Island throughout the
nineteenth century, but they also bore
witness to a large number of fascinating
characters — worth knowing not only to
Islanders but to all Canadians.
